Wow, that's a very different cause than I would have guessed. Nice trouble shooting. Thanks for posting the solution you came up with, it could help others too (I may even have one of these switcher boards somewhere).

Why not just unsolder and remove the header pins? Can always solder them back in later. Put in small bag and tape or tie to board so you won't lose them.

To be honest I’m not the best when it comes to soldering stuff so I’d have to pay someone else to do that. I don't think it's required tbh, especially if one is not comfortable with soldering.
A snip of the pin will work the same way, but good old electrical tape is doing the trick
