n00b to ARpiCADE

Hey everyone,

Long time retropie/hyperpie user, new ARpiCADE and 15khz crt user.

I recently purchased a Sega Astro City (well two of them) and I'm expecting my RaspberryJamma to be delivered today.

Not knowing anything about arcade machines and crt's, I wanted to get the RasperryJamma to make use of the great emulation support the Raspberry Pi has. I've currently got a pandora 4s in my horizontal cab, and I'm not really a fan of the screen tearing in a few games. It's great for the plug and play component, but sux in the emulation of some games eg wonderboy (one of my favs!)

I've been using retropie for quite some time and built bartops based on hyperpie (horizontal cab) and a vertipie (tate cab). Now that I've got two original Astro City's, I plan to make a dedicated shmups cab and a horizontal cab. I will first start with a shmups cab and will most likely purchase another RasberryJamma over the next few months, but the primary use of this one is for SHMUPS.

Please bare with me if I create a number of threads

Image has been downloaded, roms have been loaded (I've got 256mb left until I expand the file system) - I now need the unit and go home from work

edit: MOFO! I just browsed the other forum and noticed there's a v3.8 out LOL. I downloaded the 3.7 image as that's the one in the "downloads" section. Oh well, I'll sort it out again tonight on my super fast 2Mbps connection

Too funny... and too many similarities...

Only the one Sega Astro City cab myself... but very cool you have two and dedicating one to vertical games.

Wonderboy my fave game... and I nearly invested in a clone Pandora4s (hackable) but read a few things of concern (vertical borders etc) that made me research more that ultimately meant I re-found RasperberryJAMMA again and decided that was best... which it definitely is!!

Definitely start out with ARpiCADE 3.811... no matter how long it takes downloading at 2Mbps!

had a decent play with the setup over the weekend.

Took me a little while to get my kick harness sorted, but that's now sorted.

I also need to find out what version FBA is being used as none of the FBA based games I checked from my hyperpie image appears to work on 3.8. Works fine on 3.7, but doesn't appear to work on 3.8

Seriously considering buying another for the horizontal setup - I'll see how I go

I don't think I changed the FBA version between 3.7 and 3.8, is it possible you missed a bios file or something when you checked them? They should be the same as a MAME0.173 set for the version of FBA included (lr-fba-next).

Apparantly there's another new version out so FBA may actually get updated at the next release.

I might get it off what I have for hyperpie, the only problem is, the set I got for hyperpie references different emulators for different games (ie. the best emulator for that particular game, eg. FBA for the CPS games, advance mane for a whole heap of others)

This is one of the biggest reasons I didn't want to get the raspberryjamma, the sorting out of roms lol

I could be way off but doesn't HyperPie use different rom folders for the different emulators? The various Pi based emulator collections I've seen all do but I haven't seen HyperPie's file structure before.

I'll have to play around with it and see how it's all configured

there's no emulator.cfg to worry about with ARpiCADE. Just copy the roms to their new folders, as long as the versions are the same it should work. ie:

HyperPie name ..........ARpiCADE rom folder name
"lr-mame2003" ...........mame-078
"lr-mame2010" ...........mame-139
"lr-fbalpha" ..................fba


EDIT: this forums automatically removes extra spaces making the format wierd so ...... were added

I might suss that out and see how I go - I just don't really want to spend too much time on it yet since it's not for a hori setup

Once I receive my monitor back from Jomac, I'm hoping to pretty much transfer everything from my "Vertipie" image (roms and layouts) into ARpiCADE since it's attract mode.
