RaspberryJamma

Post by Marcb » Tue Oct 22, 2024 10:38 am

Hi,

Looking to buy a RaspberryJamma but I am a little confused as to whether it’ll work with my setup:

I have a Neo Geo arcade cabinet running a Pandora connected to Jamma and directly to an LCD display via vga output from the Pandora (sadly the original Orion monitor and chassis died a few months ago)

Probably a stupid question but will I still be able to output video directly to the LCD from my rpi/RaspberryJamma via hdmi/vga or is video output through the Jamma connector?

The full RaspberryJAMMA can do either low res or high res out, there's also a mini version that is only for high res (has no video on JAMMA at all). HDMI works fine but it can be easier to use VGA as it lets you get the audio out of the DAC as well (some monitors have an output that can be fed back to the RaspberryJAMMA instead).

One gotcha to look out for with a NEOGEO cab is they can be wired in stereo (they can also be normal JAMMA wiring), regular JAMMA is mono and the RaspberryJAMMA only does mono audio throught he JAMMA edge. At the JAMMA edge JAMMA and MVS (essentially NEOGEO stereo JAMMA) wiring looks the same but they are wired to the speaker(s) differently.

Thanks for the quick response, that cleared it up for me , worst case scenario is I’d need to take care of sound separately but that shouldn’t be too difficult, I’ll shoot off an email and place an order.

Just a heads up, I have replied via a different email address due to some issues, if you don't see a reply maybe check your SPAM.

Thought I’d update this thread.

My RaspberryJamma arrived, connected the monitor directly from the DAC adjusted the config.txt file and it just works :)

After using a Pandora for a few weeks, all I can say is the RaspberyJamma/Arpicade has made me excited to use my cabinet again and the Pandora is back in it’s box.

The only minor issue I had was (you were right Dylan) my Neo Geo cab was wired for Stereo so had to do a quick speaker rewire but 5 minutes later the cab was up and running better than it has in years

Thanks dee2er for the hardware and software, it has breathed new life into my Lowboy!
