Is Saving Game Progress Possible on ARPICADE?

Trying to figure out if it is possible to save progress in a game (like The Legend of Zelda NES) on my Arpicade? If so, how?
Retroarch has save state functionality, but it's (probably) not set up. I don't tend to use save states so I haven't set it up if it is set up...
You would really need to configure a button or key to save state with and another to restore the state (or possibly there's setting to auto load save states at emulator startup, not sure).
