1944 definately works in 172, just tested it. Not sure if it needed qsound.zip as I already had it in 172 for sfex2. I don't have a 251 or newer rom for 1944, will have to chase that down.

I have CPS3 (no cd versions) in 251. Just tried SF3 3rd strike in 274, it also seems to be full speed in 274. I imagine CPS2 is fine in 274 too, haven't tried it yet as my CPS2 roms are out of date.

@FrizzleFried if you cant figure it out try running 172 from the command line to see if it gives you the reason cps2 isn't working. Use the command:
/boot/firmware/launchers/mame172.sh 1944
Although if it is just freezing on a black screen it may not show you anything I guess...

EDIT: found some CPS2 roms that run in 251, they also seem good in 274. Probably most stuff will run well in 274 from what I can see so far, but prob not as much as will in 251 - some stuff may be improved in the releases between 251 and 274 so it may be worth trying 274 first, then 251, then 172. Not sure if the fact that 0.274 is GroovyMAME adds anything beyond it being a bit newer too, it's possible that also improves something...

EDIT AGAIN: do you need the stv.zip bios for Die Hard? I'd be amazed if it's full speed anyway, some STV stuff is OK in AdvMAME. I suspect we would need the Saturn equiv of Flycast to have nice STV on Pi5.

I haven't ever downloaded roms as 7z... don't think I've set up the launcher scripts and attract-mode for them. It may be fairly simple to make them work, not sure.

At the risk of jinxing it. A bit more adjustment to launching hotkeys&mame timing and I may have it worked out.

Now to post this and have it break again. Murphys law is speeding up the random nature of the occurences.

EDIT: I'm talking about the MAME launch crash. Still hasn't happened since the post... common Murphy do your thing. It's Schrodinger's segfault and I can't open the box myself...

I'm liking 274... moved all 251 roms to 274 and haven't found anything yet that is running worse. At least one rom, RTypeLeo, has had changes and wouldn't run in 274 with the 251 rom. Need to do some RomCenter I think.

EDIT AGAIN: thank you Murphy. Not fixed, maybe improved, impossible to be sure of it... but one crash of MAME while starting in just over an hour, no need to reboot.

They work... been using the same 7z .172 ROMset since Pi3... they work on the Pi3/Pi4... just having some issues with certain systems in .172 for Pi5. Will try the qsound.zip... might fix the CPS2 issues...

Yeah, I've had a few "false starts" in .274 starting up CPS2 games testing (yes, they do seem to run 100%)... but no control issues in a long while (knock on wood)... but I agree that .274 seems to be a good starting point to work back from. It seems to play most games fine thus far... I've not really dove in to this yet just had time to play here and there between the wife and kid and work and the damn dogs and ...

EDIT: Oh, and thanks for the mouse pointer removal info. Done.

Make sure ym2413.zip is there as well, Arcade Italia lists that this is an additional file needed for some of your games.

I'll take a gander ... maybe that's the issue. Thanks!

EDIT: qsound.zip fixed all my CPS2 issues. CPS3 remains non-working (not a big deal as all these systems play fine in .251/.274)

ym2413.zip added but I've not come across anything it fixed as of yet.

I'm going to move all my master rom lists to .274 and go from there...

I think part of my problem is that I've cut down the .172 ROMS to just horizontal and vertical editions... working and imperfect. I think some files got omitted. I might just replace with the full-monte as I'll be receiving a 256GB mini-sd card today from Amazon. I almost went 512 but the sweet-spot price wise is the 256GB at just about $18.00 US. I'm going to dump a bunch of Dreamcast (non-Naomi represented) roms on to play around with... and I might as well just drop the full .174 romset on for the heck of it.

Today I've discovered something surprising and interesting. With a Pi4, running Mortal Kombat 2, ARpiCADE_5 running newest MAME it has (GroovyMAME 0.274) is fullspeed. On ARpiCADE_4 (v3.2) running newest MAME it has (MAME 0.230) MK2 is not full speed.

Didn't test anything else on both systems directly but Pi4 users may want to try ARpiCADE_5 if they havent already... a surprising amount of stuff is fullspeed in 0.274 on Pi4. Maybe worth waiting until I release a version with all the fixes already done if you don't like running updates though.
