ARpiCADE 3.72 update

Post by dee2eR » Thu Sep 28, 2017 2:22 am

WARNING:
I consider this update a bit experimental, it's working great for me but is a big enough change to the existing codebase that it is possible I have missed something in testing. Otherwise it's just a quick bugfix update to be installed over 3.71. Contains a new version of Attract-Mode with the keyboard bug fixed. Also contains a new hotkeys system. This is not the next update as I had planned but I got on a bug crushing run and this is the result. The new hotkey system is still in beta as far as I'm concerned, I'd appreciate any feedback. ALL emulators are now using the hotkeys for exit etc. That was going to be the whole update so I threw in the newest version of my vertical Arcade SD style theme (SDarcadeModVert).

New exit hotkey is: hold P1 Start for 1.5 seconds (no other button needed), other hotkey combos are the same as previously. For configuration /boot/hotKeys.conf has been replaced with /boot/hotkeys.ini at the moment it is not as configurable as the old system but works better. Functionally it is similar to the old system in that it sends keycodes instead of joystick codes under certain conditions.

If you're a bit new to the system or a bit nervous about updating maybe wait a few days to be safe. Also if you're running a three or four player system using extra USB controls hold off updating as the new hotkeys code will almost definately break players 3 and 4 without some changes, anyone in this situation please get in contact with me if you can help me fix this by testing some alternate code.

To update add the folder and the script to /boot/config-updater/ and run the update option from the service menu. Enjoy. I look forward to any feedback you may have.

Hey there,

I completely understand that this is still in BETA, but I wanted to try it out.
I have an issue with the new update. In Attract Mode, the sound for most of my video snaps is messed up.

Has anyone else experienced this?
I will be reimaging back to 3.71 for now.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll look into this. I typically have the sound off in the menu so I missed this I guess... Must be to do with the new version of Attract-Mode.

Hi Dylan,

I updated my image several weeks back to give the new update a try...just getting around to sharing some of my findings.

First of all...it is awesome. The new features just get better and better with every update. I can't wait to see what this thing is capable in a year :D !

I am only playing classic arcade games from AttractMode...no consoles.

Secondly, I absolutely love the ArcadeSD style theme. Really hope to see that in a horizontal layout down the road!

I also experience stuttering and wild volume fluctuations with video snaps on different layouts.

Not all games exit back to the main menu when pressing 1P Start. Not many...just a few...Pacman comes to mind...

The switching to low-res (240p) does not "automatically" when selected from the service menu. And maybe that is by design?

For some reason I can not get a handful of games to start at all when selected from the menu. This was not the case in 3.71. Moon Patrol is one. Kind of an issue for me as this is being used in a Moon Patrol cabinet...ha! I have tried different versions of mame as well as different roms. No dice.

Love the cross hatch and color bars. Very handy for monitor adjustments.

I think that is all for now...just thought I would share. I still struggle with getting into the "hidden" files from a Windows machine and making changes...they never save. For example the noporn rules...Im just going to have to figure out how to make those changes from the Pi itself. Thats for another thread.

Keep up the awesome work!

Your support for this wonderful product is top notch and most appreciated!

Matt

Replied to you on another forum while this one was unusable...

Just wanted to thank you for the feedback and the heads up about the spam attack.
