Sorry, development is essentially on hold while my wrist heals from surgery... admittedly, prior to me breaking my wrist dev had already slowed down... the last several months have been out of the ordinairy.... I had also hoped I would have this release done by now. Cant say I blame you for the impatience.

The exiting RA cores using any input driver other than Linux raw is one of the 2 hold ups to the release. I have a couple of ideas to try to that end...

It will be another evolvolutionary update not a revolution, just improvements. The best 'new feature' is better multiple analog input support for (most) RA cores, enabling 2 player 'lightguns' etc.

Ah. Sorry, I'd not realized you broke a wrist. I hope that heals quickly.

:)

I am a very patient impatient guy.

updating the firmware makes arpicade 4.3.7 unbootable

dragons lair starts but goes black screen on second attempt
using 960x480 hires

trying out killer instinct 1/2/3 for the first time
downloaded from a site dedicated to running it on mame.
none of them start
tried 78 and 230.
the site uses 241 for windows

Not sure exactly what you mean. How are you updating the Pi firmware? I haven't had any issue with different Pi4 firmware before outside of how hot it gets (and some experiments I tried...). Hopefully they haven't released some firmware that breaks older software builds...

There is no ARpiCADE 4.3.7 - doesn't exist yet... the newest is 4.3.1 (outside of my own experimental builds). To get 4.3.1 you need to image the SD card with 4.3 and put the 4.3.1 update folder and script into the config-updater folder, then run the update arpicade option from the service menu.

Highres mode is 640x480. 960x480i is the interelaced low res mode.

Dragons Lair 2nd startup bug is to do with SDL - I have a build I fixed it on but low res resolution switching broke due to the required updates for the SDL fix... still trying to figure out a balance as Pi4 has weird video drivers. This bug should be fixed one way or another in the next release.

KI(1) runs OK (not perfect) with the Pi4 overclocked in MAME 078, but you will need the correct rom for MAME 0.78 (AKA libretro MAME 2003) as well as the CHD. KI2 won't run as well, I guess they used more of the original hardwares cababilitys on the sequel. I've never heard of KI3. Killer Instinct isn't great on Pi, it's a rare case of the original game running on X86 hardware. It's possible this will improve in time, but far from certain. The other way I know of to run KI on Pi isn't as good as 078.

well,

the filename is 4.3.7z
7z stands for 7zip.
looked like 4.3.7 to me
which means i am missing the 4.3.1 update
running "4.3.7" there was no need for 4.3.1

good grief.
updating...

640x480 works, but it is out of sync

I use a 27" CRT that does both vert and horz games
any suggestions for timing?
i can ask the original builder to let me know what brand crt he used

my crt appears to be a wells gardner k7xxx series.
it comes with a remote adjustment board assembly which will allow me to adjust the monitor using pots.
v-hold, and other options
not sure i want to change these, but tell me what you think

lol, that makes sense... the 7z extension does make it look like 4.3.7

I think once you're up and running 4.3.1 it should fix up most of the 4 player issues.

Sorry for my confusion, you mentioned firmware and the Pi4 is the first Pi with onboard firmware seperate to the SD card - initially I wasn't sure which you meant.

Is it a high res CRT? Not sure I've ever encountered a high res 27" CRT except some Sony widescreen TVs, not that I've seen everything. Wells Gardiner are not especially common in Australia so I'm far from certain. Did you try the default low res settings at all?

Assuming it is a low res monitor that is good, the old games were made for low res and will look more correct running their original low resolutions than they do on modern monitors or on high res CRTs.

all old games run on 240p fine
only doing this for dragons lair

NOTE: i upgraded to pi 4 to get marble madness to run correctly.
it wont run properly on a pi v3 even overclocked. i tried
runs at 1800mhz overclocking on the pi v4 flawlessly like the original cab

like i said, in hires DL runs and is playable but the screen is doing "the wave" all the time
out of sync horz

the cabinet is gauntlet dark legacy, a 27" hires CRT widescreen 4player cabinet
p.s. builder says monitor is not original, but same size as original
getting pics if that will help

just need a modeline that will fix all this
