ARpiCADE 4.4 pre-alpha

Post by dee2eR » Mon Jun 13, 2022 6:58 am

Please note: if you only have JAMMA controls and 4.3 works on your Pi4 you are best off sticking with 4.3.

This is not a mainline release. I wasn't going to release it but there's an issue with some new Pi4s not booting on older software...

Do not use 480i. Stick with either 240p (default on this relase) or high res.

MAME 0.172 is basically broken on this release (outside of high res). MAME 0.203 and MAME 0.230 work.

Preliminary USB 'light gun' support.

EDIT:
a bug games has been found for games that run at exactly 60hz, no idea why this is an issue on 4.4 yet but I have a workaround.
Replace /boot/launchers/resSwitch.sh with this version:

This bug may have been why I thought MAME 172 was broken... not sure yet but it seems to work now....

Another edit:
I've added a way to run 4.3 (no 480i though) on newer Pi4s to the 4.3 release thread. Unless you're using lightguns I'd recommend using 4.3 over 4.4.

Hello!

till looking for a way to exit Dreamcast/Naomi games with 4.3... have you come across a solution to that by chance?

sorry I kept you waiting on this one. I have it working now. Turns out it was a simple fix once I figured out what was actually going wrong.

Here's a new copy of exitHotkey.py for use with the 4 player adaptor (exitHotkey4p.py):

Put it in /boot/launchers/ and then either rename it so it overwrites the original exitHotkey.py OR edit naomi.sh so it calls exitHotkey4p.py instead of the original version.

I'll make it all automated with the service menu 4 player setup options in the future.

I ran into the issue where I cannot run 4.3 on my Pi4 8gb. Tried updating eeprom and all that stuff to no avail. I can run 4.4 on my Pi and it seems to work minus one issue. My screen has a tearing, wavy or smearing effect at the top where the image is being pulled to the side. I've tested in a horizontal and Vertical setup. The Arpicade is primarily for a vertical 25" WG K7000 15khz monitor. I see it in 240p and the default low res does weird things with the image like squishing or stretching. Any suggestions or advice or is it the 4.4 build?

For 240p you should hopefully be able to adjust your monitor using the monitor chassis adjustments (possibly the sync, I'm not familar with WG as they're uncommon here) to remove the wavy edge. If it's only on a particular resolution/refresh rate though it could be that particular res/refresh has issues - please let me know if that is the case.

It isn't the monitor adjustment, I've messed with the holds and all that. If I move the position of the image the issue follows it. 240p is definitely where the image gets the wavy effect. Low res just squishes the games.

I have also tested 2 cps2 boards and a Taito f3 board which work well.

I have also tested in my other machine which has the same type of monitor. Have also tried various roms and versions of mame. Every instance I have the same results.

I have two Pis and unfortunately one of them won't work with 4.3. This release seems considerably broken compared to 4.3; finalburn had no input set and has a really weird white border around a stretched picture, whereas on 4.3 it didn't stretch and knew it was a vertical game.

Mame (can't remember which version) worked fine on 4.3 with the vertical game on horizontal screen, but on 4.4 the same version of mame, it seems to zoom into the middle and stretch.

Hopefully a version with the same configuration as 4.3 can be released because that works and looks perfectly. I kinda regret grabbing another RaspberryJamma for my second machine. Wish the Pis didn't change.

This is a pre alpha release, not even a beta release its going to have major issues until Dee2er releases a working stable version.
