In fba its f1 to enter the menu (during game play) under settings than under video options set "display frame rate" to on.

I could've sworn I had the frame rate option in fba, but it didn't appear to do anything - but it's most likely user error.
Can't say it works for me on fba...

But I get no fps text anywhere on screen
Works fine in advance mame.. I get "auto - 100%" or something like that.

For the Retroarch based stuff you will also need to turn on the OSD from the Retroarch menus to see the frame rate. It's off by default to hide the yellow text it can produce when loading games if you use save states or similar.

Hey Guys, kind of just getting started with this and have heatsinks on.
I'm curious about a couple things:
Did you guys change the 1A fuse to a 2.5A fuse like the config.txt says?
Where/How are you making the overclock changes? In the config.txt on a pc?

A decent o/c and an external keyboard etc will definitely exceed 1amp. It did for me.
So depending on the the speeds you manage to achieve and what ancillary devices (if any) you have connected you may not even need to.
No need to replace it before it pops
Yes, edit the config.txt however is easiest for you.
There are some o/c settings in there already, just commented out.
Uncomment them and your off a good place to start.

Regarding active cooling. I figured I'd tack onto this thread topic since it's related to overclocking. Bought a 3b+ and the "ultimate cooling fan kit" from iUniker. Recommended by a retropie overclocking youtuber.
My fundamental question is where should I hookup the +5 and ground? The Arpicade ribbon cable covers the pins and the plug for the cooling fan would normally go there. Should I a) run wire down to the switching power supply or b) tap right into the raspberry pi pins somehow or c) other I didn't think of.

The Pi is being powered through the 5v points of the GPIO via the ribbon cable, I wouldn't recommend trying to squeeze more connections in there. You could fit a USB plug to the fan wires (only the power connections obviously) and get your 5V from the Pi that way. Wiring the fan to your JAMMA power supply 5v directly will also work. Personally I'd probably solder the fan wires to the RaspberryJAMMAs JAMMA edge very carefully so the JAMMA connection still works, when plugged in there's just enough space left to add the wire connections (although I haven't had any need for active cooling and haven't spent any real time overclocking the Pi).
Earlier versions of the RaspberryJAMMA actually had a 5v out header, but it never got used for anything and was squeezed out when I added the video amp at version 3 of the hardware. Shame it was removed now as it would have been perfect for adding a fan.
Side note on the 1A fuse thing... newer v3 RaspberryJAMMAs have 2A fuses fitted, if you bought yours in the last year(ish) you probably have a 2A fuse onboard. Unless you have a huge amount of USB stuff connected the 2A fuse should be fine for most overclocked setups (I think...).
