Wireless keyboard recommendation

Post by Happswitch » Thu Sep 14, 2017 6:53 pm

I have had a lot of luck using the following wireless keyboard with my RaspberryJAMMA. It's also rechargeable and handheld, making it easy to tuck out of the way when I'm not hacking on the machine.

I have this version below, and it works great. Cost is about $15. I just leave the wireless receiver stub inside my arcade machine, so I'm not having to go in and out of my cabinet when I need a keyboard.

That said I am thinking of upgrading to the newer version ($21). The big difference being backlighting.

In either case - having this has been a huge help when working on my cabinet.

Cheers!

I'd also recommend these keyboards. Element14 sell the exact same keyboard as part of a "XBMC Solution" pack but they're much cheaper on Amazon ( http://au.element14.com/element14/rpi-a ... dp/2310263 ). The only downside for me is some minor layout issues, some keys are not where I'd expect and you have to press 'Fn' to activate certain keys due to the low number of physical keys.

Mine also occasionally gets used to navigate YouTube from the couch, works great on the Missus Windows laptop too.

Warning to anyone looking around for something like this, there are some similar (but not quite identical) looking keyboards that do not work well compared to this unit. The model shown in the link in the above Happswitch post should be the good one. Mine states it is model QK-90015 on the back sticker, just in case that helps anyone.

LOL - I agree, layout has been an issue, but bearable. I've been happy they at least have all the characters I need.

I'm shocked they are charging so much for this on Element14. Pays to shop around a little.

You make a good point Dee2er. The first link I provided is the exact keyboard I am using, and can vouch for its compatibility with RPi (and of course RaspberryJAMMA) as well as other platforms. Rock solid.

The second link is to the latest version of the same model, but I haven't tested it. That said, I would expect it to be just as compatible.

Other versions of this style of keyboard - may not be compatible. Buyer beware. ;)
