controls/layout question

Post by dtels01 » Fri Jan 18, 2019 6:09 pm

hello arpicaders i was thinking about doing a 2 player dual joystick set up for games like smash tv and total carnage on an upright cabinet, but with so many other fun games available, could one add buttons to that set up? in other words a functional 2 player control panel. 3 or 4 pushbuttons between the joysticks for a total of 4 joysticks and 6 to 8 pushbuttons, can that be wired up on a jamma? thanks

Using the 4 player adaptor would certainly work to add extra inputs, it has enough to have up to 4 joysticks, 4 starts, 4 coin mechs, 6 buttons for each player (for 2 players only 12 buttons per player) and some extra buttons too.

You could make a four player setup from the available JAMMA inputs only but there would only be enough buttons for start, coin, 2 action buttons (3 if you also use service and test) and 2 joysticks for each player.

With custom wiring you could reuse some inputs so each players second joystick was wired to 4 extra buttons as well as the stick. This would give you 2 joysticks per player when wanted or 6 buttons per player when wanted.
