New Raspberry Pi 4

Raspberry Pi 4
Raspberry Pi 4 has been announced. It's not yet out though. There will be 3 flavours of Pi4B as far as I understand it, 1 gig, 2 gig and 4 gig versions (based on experience with Pi3A+ the 1gig version may not be able to handle complex Attract-Mode themes and may have some other limitations). The specs are pretty good, supposedly up to 3x faster than Pi3B+. Now supports 2 video outputs too. Hopefully the new 4k video chip still does low res out, I haven't been able to figure that out yet.
Screw holes and GPIO haven't changed so it should fit existing RaspberryJAMMA boards. A HDMI mini adaptor will be needed as they used the smaller HDMI size to fit two HDMI ports onto the Pi4. The power rating has changed to 5v 3A but I'm reasonably confident the existing 2A fuses should be OK as I suspect the extra power is for USB3 support (Pi4 has 2 USB3 and 2 USB2 ports). I'll check out the power consumption when I get one to confirm if 2A fuses will work OK.
I'll get one as soon as I can to investigate further. I'm excited to see what it can do. Assuming all goes well, I will get onto making ARpiCADE 4.0...
Oh and they moved the 'run' reset header again, lol.
UPDATE: I've ordered both the 2 gig and 4 gig versions, E14 say the 2 gig will release a week earlier (nowish). The Pi4 1 gig is the same price as RPi3B+, the other 2 are more expensive.

New Pi 4 announced, looking forward to see if this fixes some of the slower roms in the future https://www.engadget.com/2019/06/24/ras ... 4-model-b/
Re: Raspberry Pi 4
Really looking forward to seeing how this will improve things, just bought another 3b+ yesterday but probably return it and get in the a 4.
Re: New Raspberry Pi 4
Hopefully its a straightforward port for D. Atleast the GPIO is the same so fantastic news, the HDMI cable needs to change though.
Re: New Raspberry Pi 4
Was just coming to see if anyone posted about this yet. Quite a bit different under the hood on this one. I'm excited to see an update, but don't expect it for several months. Maybe this will allow me to emulate Gauntlet Legends now
Re: New Raspberry Pi 4
Yeah, pretty excited to see what this means for Arpicade users. I'm not expecting any drastic performance differences, but hoping for at least enough boost to get more games running full speed or with better sound etc.
Hopefully the 4 can fit the existing jamma pi board?

I've merged the 2 RPi4 threads into this one.

Re: New Raspberry Pi 4
Glad to find this thread! I came here to see what might be cooking for ArPiCade. I'm glad to hear some hope that it could work with an existing ArPiCade setup.
I've been so happy running ArPiCade on my cabinet. Thanks for all you've done, dee2eR.

dee2er,
Do you think the 2GB and 4GB RAM versions will be useful for Arpicade? Or would the 1GB be plenty?
