No Buttons on Jamma

Post by martymoose » Tue Jan 26, 2021 6:37 am

Hi all
I bought a arpicade last year
installed the 3.7 image and booted up
i had no buttons on jamma at all
so just thought its a config error
anyway got put on the back burner
just getting it going again
installed 3.x image and still no buttons
so i read this thread viewtopic.php?f=5&t=753
and tried the jstest /dev/input/js0
no buttons on screen
changed out the rpi still the same
now stuck any ideas leaning towards hardware?
cheers

Could be either the RaspberryJAMMA adaptor (possibly the ribbon cable) or some other part of the setup.
Have you adjusted the dipswitches to suit your cab? Some cabs have the button GNDs going to pin 27/e which can be GND, B6 or floating on a RaspberryJAMMA depending on the dipswitche settings.

Otherwise I guess there could be an issue cabside, assuming you haven't had any other boards in it...

If you can take a photo of the board in your setup I may be able to spot something. It would be very odd for every input to fail at once on the RasberryJAMMA board.

Can't see any of your cab wiring to be sure it would matter in your cab but you have all the dipswitches in the off position, which will cause pins 27 & e to be floating.

Some cabs, particularly Capcom ones, have all the button grounds wired to 27/e - you may need to set the RaspberryJAMMA dipswitches to 1&2 ON, 3&4 off - which will make 27 & e into grounds.

If you have 6 buttons on JAMMA you probably want them set 1&2 off, 3&4 ON

The dipswitches look right for that wiring... and changing the ribbon cable should rule it out... very curious. There's not much that can fail to knock out every input, one of two perhapps but all at once is very unlikely without track damage to the PCB. There's no other single part that can fail in the input path that would take out the lot, just Pi or ribbon cable or many tracks damaged under the RaspberryJAMMA PCB.

What is the USB device that is plugged in? If it is recognised as a joystick of some sort it could be messing up the joystick order in the software. If it's just a keyboard it shouldn't be doing anything bad though. If you haven't already it may be worth trying without the USB device plugged in, just in case.

If it's not a huge hassle on your cab could you take a photo of under the control panel, maybe something out of the ordinairy there... although I'm struggling to think of what would work on a Pandora but not on a RaspberryJAMMA.

EDIT:
just noticed there's no PCB standoffs between the Pi and RaspberryJAMMA. If you're running it like that perhapps something is shorting between the two boards(?)... Doesn't seem likely but no standoffs is a bit odd, maybe you took them off for the photo or something...

The RPI that's the other one
The standoffs ore on the other one
Tested both to check
I tested buttons back to resistors
I am stumped
Is the 2 pin sockets under pi on the jamma board are they spose to have pins in
Has to be something simple
