Rookie Mistake

Post by tssoww » Wed Oct 27, 2021 5:20 pm

Hello,
I made a dumb mistake and ended up shorting a component on my RaspberryJAMMA while it was loose in my Ms Pac Man cabinet.

Currently the board still operates but the screen has a bright red cast.

It looks to my semi-trained eye like the damage is limited to this single component, and I'm guessing it was a diode. Is that a reasonable assessment?

If anyone can tell me what it is (used to be), I believe I can solder in a replacement and go from there.

Thanks!

Answered my own question once I desoldered and cleaned up the board. It's a 1N5819 diode. Next we'll see where replacing it gets me.

Wow, don't think I've seen that before... the diode looks like it was on fire!

That diode is only on the 12v. Without it you will have no amplified JAMMA edge audio but it won't be the thing effecting the video colour as the video side is runing off the 5v.

It's possible you have done some more damage that is not immediately obvious. Possibly to the RGB amp (the one surface mount chip) or the DAC.

I'll be happy to help in any way I can to ge the thing back up and working. It should defintely be repairable.
