Horizontal games on a vertical monitor question

Hello, I recently got my rig set up going on my arcade cab and had a quick question you might be able to help me with. My cab has a vertical monitor and I want to play horizontal games on it with remounting the monitor....I tried a few horizontal games but they are huge and the game is chopped off, was just wondering if there was someway I could adjust the horizontal games to be shrunk down to fit my vertical setup (make the game smaller to fit on the screen) I mostly play vertical games but want a few horizontal to mix things up, if there was a way to shrink horizontal games down would it affect the vertical games as well or could I set it for each game? I’m a total noob and am still learning and would appreciate any help I could get. Is there someway to edit MAME to make the games run the way you need them to run? I have no idea on how to pull up edits or options for the emulators. Please help, thank you

It will vary a bit from emulator to emulator but what you want to do is certainly possible. The logic is controlled by the launchers, as it's not terribly popular I haven't put much time into horizontal games on vertical monitors compared to the other way around. You may find just trying different MAME versions that one or two of them are set up how you want already. With the Retroarch based emulators you can set completely arbitrary ratios so you will definately be able to do it, the other MAME versions should also be able to do it in one way or another.

Which MAME version have you tried? I will have a look and hopefully make it work better by default for the next release too.

I was using the newest version of Mame but don’t know how to access the mame menu....or any menu for the emulators. I’ll try to tinker around with it tonight and give you a update.

Appreciate all the help, just was trying not to remount my monitor...would total mess the look of the cab up I think. If I could get a few horizontal games running I’d be a happy gamer
