3.x hdmi mode 6
by default in 3.x hdmi mode 6 is set. my cab is a cocktail with an lcd monitor hooked up with the vga port. in hdmi mode 6 the default setting, everything loads great when it boots, attract mode looks good using sdarcade v4. the problem is when i load older games like ms pacman for instance the game loads but then its just black screen. if i put a quarter in i can start the game but the screen just stays black. its like the res switching isn't happening to switch the resolution for the older games. if i edit config.txt to hdmi mode 1, it works fine for the older games like ms pacman. question is, is there anyway to run in hdmi mode 6 and still have the older games res switch to the correct resolution and then back to the 480i res when back to the menu?
Re: 3.x hdmi mode 6
For LCD you should probably use hdmi_mode 1, 480i is intended for low res CRTs. Is it causing an issue?
When you run in 480i the system changes to 240p (or similar depending on the game...) when you load a game. Lots of high res monitors don't know what to do with a 240p signal while many can deal with 480i (with varying results...).
On LCD there's not much point having resolution switching as they can't display the games the same way a CRT can, as you have discovered. You would find trying to attach an original Pacman board to your LCD (without an additional scaler) would have the same black screen result.

ahh, thanks for the clarification. i have another question, can arpicade utilize opengl? daphne on pc uses it for screen rotation, was wondering if arpicade can use it as well. ive manually rotated the videos for dragons lair, but it would be so much simpler to just turn the opengl rotation on. also some older games like jr pacman the screen seems to be oversized, its cutting the top off anyway to fix this? i have it set for hdmi mode 1, everything looks good except being oversized
Re: 3.x hdmi mode 6
It can't do hardware accelerated OpenGL (as far as I'm aware), but it can do OpenGLES. Unfortunately I don't think Daphne supports GLES, hence we're using SDL1.2+ DispmanX...
It's possible I'm wrong though, I haven't really used Daphne much in the last year or so. Also RPi has a lot of people working on it so it's possible some solution to OpenGL exists I'm unaware of....
Jnr Pacman, not knowing which emulator you're using... probably easiest to try a newer MAME. Or, if it's in AdvMAME (106) the AdvMAME video menu may have a setting that will fix it up.
