Sound settings won't save

Post by KillerCroc » Mon Jan 15, 2018 7:49 am

Thanks for the help so far!

I'm able to get control / dipswitch settings to save in individual games upon exit, but not sound settings.

This is what I see when I try to save sound settings in a game (picture attached). Next time the game boots, however, the sound settings haven't been saved. Same happens whether or not I hit "Save for this game".

Any ideas?

It should work as you tried. Not sure why it wouldn't be working.

What setting are you trying to save? I will check itout and see if I can figure out the issue.

The "attenuation" setting. I think I tried the "Amplification" setting as well.

Basically I'm trying to get some games, which boot normally at a loud volume, to boot quieter. (If you can think of a better way - and there probably is - let me know!)

Messed around a bit and still no luck. Wondering if I should be altering things in a config file somewhere instead...

There's 2 config files for advmame you can directly edit these settings into. The main one is /home/pi/.advance/advmame.sdl.rc and the secondary one is /home/pi/.advance/advmame.rc (games that don't play nice using SDL use the second rc file).

It may be worth turning off the audio_normalise setting (it think that's it's name, it's very late). I've been meaning to investigate it further as it causes problems in DK3s sound, it's on by default but I suspect it may be better off. It's supposed to make all games run at the same volume and may be part of your volume issue.

Thank you for your response!

I won't get around to trying these edits until this weekend, but I'll post my results when I do.

Okay, so I tried some stuff. :D

*Turning off audio_normalise has had a positive effect overall. None of the games are blaring any longer when I run them. Everything *seems* to be at more or less the same volume.

*Tried making sound settings in the same location for individual games. Saved successfully, but still no effect when the games run. Could be that I'm messing this up myself: maybe you can't use negative #s to bring down volume? (Game crashes when I do.) But menu save still doesn't work either. :|

It should work for individual games like this:
dkong3/sound_adjust 5
dkong3/sound_normalize no

is that what you were trying?
