8.4 Boot Splash Not Updating

I'm running 8.4 and have replaced the splash.png with one I'd like to be showing and now nothing shows at all until the loading one just before scanning ROM's (Which I have disabled). I've tried about 8 different .png files and none of them are working and the original splash is now gone.

What image editor are you using? I've found recently that a change to GIMP changed *unknown* default setting and has caused any images I've recently made in GIMP to not work with ARpiCADE. Using a different image editor (Krita) worked for me at the time, I haven't looked into it further since.

Not sure if this will be your issue but it's the one I'm aware of. Do you still have the alternate splash files in /boot/config-updater/? If you rename one of them to just splash.png instead of splash.png.capcom (or whatever name it was) and update the splash form the service menu it should work.

This was just a .png scraped from a site, but I have tried about 7-8 different png files now. And when I try from the service menu it does nothing, it flashes dark for a milisecond and then goes straight back to service menu. The same thing happens btw when updating the system. I am also connected to WiFi btw.

EDIT: I finally got it to show after doing flash reset of the image. Although I still cannot get the update to run and can't seem to find any info on here about it.

The update won't do anything if you haven't got an update to install. I haven't released an update in that way for a little while now, just full images. It doesn't check the internet for updates or similar.
