Sorry for the long post.
So I’ve been using advancemame only for about 2 years, lately I’ve been playing more of the arpicade and less original boards and noticed quite a few games play like crap or not at all so I’m gonna start again.
I installed the latest(well 3.9) on my new SD card.
Long story short, games I’ve always had issues with NBA jam, Outrun, Mk1,2,3 all run very well on .78
So I’m gonna start the long task of different emus for different games.
My question is the supported game/emu list in the wiki still the way to go to do this and anything else leave on .78, so I've made some batch files based on the rom compatability list and exported the relevant roms to each folder on my SD card? One game I noticed missing in there is Outrun which runs well on .78

I’m confused as to how the allgames list populates, I’ve scanned the roms for .78 and advancemame and I’ve these 2 lists, but both lists show the rom name only, however I've an all games list which shows the info for each rom but is only displaying the roms from the .78 list, previously I hid these 2 lists and used the all games list and my favourites only but now I can’t figure out how to get it to update as I add the roms to each different version of mame, any ideas?

Last but not least, where is the Hiscore saved so I can copy over my hiscores?
Is the high score emu specific.
Like if I get 8million on bubble bobble using advancemame and I open bubble bobble on .172 will my high score still be there?

Generally I recommend 172 as the first MAME to try for anything you're not sure about. It's relatively new compared to a lot of MAME versions on Pi, it can be more accurate than earlier versions and still runs great for a lot of stuff.

It should make a reasonable guide and you'll definitely get better results than just using AdvMAME for everything.

The All Games list is normally made by the romscanning script. If you're not using the script and are populating the lists through Attract-Mode or by hand you will need to make the All Games list too. Check /boot/launchers/ScanRoms_V007.sh for the syntax used to combine the other existing lists into the All Games list. As the scanner treats arcade and console games differently it also makes a console list and a arcade list, you may need to change the actual command used to suit your setup. - side note if you avoid the romscanner script because it used to be slow it's a lot faster now - you can also run one off scans (assuming you disabled the startup scan in run.sh) in the Service Menu after exiting the first instance of Attract-Mode which should fix up the All Games list for you.

High score files are found in their respective MAME folders in /home/pi/ eg. /home/pi/.advance/hi/ or /home/pi/mame172/hi/ etc.

You won't be able to transfer hi scores (reliably) between MAME versions. The high score systems vary between versions. Some close versions may work, eg 094 to 106. Re-reading you may have just meant does each MAME version share one universal high score system, in which case, no.

Cool, thanks, there is a few more games in that list than on the one in the download/documentation, the ones marked as 181, I take it 172 is the best for those. I might do some testing with the mame4all games and see if there is something that they run better in also.
Ive created batch files using that list to extract the roms from each set.

I have my advancemame hi score file and 172 one so that’s a start.
Yes my question was whether there was a global hiscore.dat for all mame versions
