Adding ROMs not on compat list/switching emulators

Hi there,

New to all this... two questions as of right now.

If I want to use a different emulator (say FBA instead of Mame 172) to play the CPS 2 games, and I move the roms from the 172 folder to FBA folder, will the software still index them correctly and add to the rom list appropriately even though I'm not using the suggested emualator?

Second, if I add games that are not on the 1670 compatibility list, will the Arpicade software still index them to show the title and videos and logo and all that stuff and add to the ROM list?

Many thanks!

For the most part, yes.

However, if you moved CPS2 roms from MAME 0.172 to FBA they would all stop working due to changes to the romset at MAME 0.173 (which is the set FBA is based on). Also 172 is very likely the better place to run CPS2 stuff.

Videos/logos etc will show if they are on the SD card. If not just add them, have a look in /boot/previews/

If you do add a game and it doesn't show after a rom scan it may be being (deliberately) ignored by the romscanner (check /boot/launchers/scanRoms007.sh there's some ignore rom arrays) OR it may not be in the relevant 'aml' file for that emulator (check /boot/launchers/aml/[emulator version].aml - add the rom if its missing ) The 'aml' files are essentially the reference the romscanner uses so if there's no info for a rom they get skipped.

The suggested emulators are just suggestions, most stuff recommended for 172 is probably good there. You may find some roms in AdvMAME (MAME 106) would be better off in 172 or FBA for the more up to date emulation or other reason.

Thanks for the help! I couldn't get them to run under MAME .172 so thought I'd move them to FBA, but then I realized of course that those didn't work either so I moved them back--I had forgotten to add qsound.zip to the mame-172 folder and now they seem to be working nicely.

I've only experienced a few quirks with ROMs having been added but seemingly ignored by the scanner--NBA Jam TE is one of them that I can notice off hand. I suppose for some of them getting indexed with inappropriate logos or videos it's just gonna be a matter of matching my (really old) Hyperspin videos and wheel artwork up with the newer ROM names that might have happened in the last ten years or so...

At any rate, really appreciate the advice!
