Gamelist does not display console games

Post by bravebluerx » Sun Oct 22, 2017 10:34 pm

Hi All,

Running the arcade roms fine, fyi Narc v 7.0 has terrible sound distortion with the recommended advmame (mame106) emulation.

My question is that my menu is not finding any of the console games I have added to the folders roms/consoles/advmess/nes or roms/consoles/snes. Games are unzipped. Running 3.71 arpicade firmware. In the menu I select to scan arcade and console games to the list, reboot, but still only arcade roms are still showing up.

Any suggestions?

There's a couple of things that could be happening, first posibility is you missed a step in the romscanning, it's not clear from what you've said. You need to scan the arcade roms, then scan the console games and then combine the lists (the help text displayed is wrong, just using the arcade roms scanner doesn't actually combine the lists on its own - I keep forgetting to fix this up, sorry). I assume you won't need to rescan your arcade games as they're already appearing so just scan the console roms then select the option that combines the lists.

The second is do your games have spaces in the filesnames? If so rename them replacing the spaces with underscores and try again. My romscanning script doesn't work well with spaces in filenames (partially a Linux quirk partially my code - this is another thing I always forget about looking at fixing up).

The third posibilty is the main menu should be all games but it's possible it's set to arcade only. If this is the case it can be fixed in the Attract-Mode menus (either "test" button or "tab" on a keyboard), from memory the section you want is called displays.

Otherwise the console scanning script must be broken, I hope it's not that. If it is that you could try the scanner built in to Attract-Mode but it has no way to combine all consoles into one list and then combine that with arcade games, you would need to set up different displays for each console.

EDIT: thanks for the feedback re. NARC, I'll check it out.

Thanks for the quick reply and guidance! Those would definitely be helpful points to mention in the documentation or FAQ to help others too. I'll give those fixes a try and report back

I recorded the text on the arcade monitor that was displayed right after the arpicade boot up shows "Building Gamelist please wait" and for a split second it displayed several of the following lines: attract/sortRomsConsoles.sh: line 74: [too many arguments

Based on your feedback, I then renamed the unzipped.nes images by removing the (U)[!] in the file names, set attract mode to show all games. Now my console backup images are detected in the Game lists and playable, thanks for the info!

It is tedious to rename large game list file names, so would love to see these file characters recognized by a future firmware one day :) would definitely help with the learning curve involved with setting the system up for us newbies.

Thanks again
