Trying to add more ROMs, but...

...when I stick the SD card into my Windows 10 laptop, it doesn't show a drive mount with the "ROMS" directory mentioned in the instructions. It just says it doesn't recognize what's on the SD card, and asks to format it.
ARpiCADE, the emulators, frontends and installed ROMs are all working fine otherwise in my machine. Am I missing software / a step / something else? Thanks for any help in advance!

The SD card you have must be formatted in a way Windows cannot read. Sometimes partitions formatted to fat32 in Linux cannot be read in Windows, I'm generally pretty careful to check before I do a release though. Unless you can use Linux via a live CD or something to read the card as is you will probably have to wait for an update when the 3.8 release makes its way through to all the various builds out there.
If you want to you could always download the ARpiCADE 3.8 image I released recently, it's definately able to be read by Windows (well the first partition anyway). Won't help you read the SD card you have but if you're wanting to have a go at it yourself it at least gets you going.

Thank you for your response!
I'm still a Linux n00b, but...per using Linux, do you think I could use a program like Puppy Linux or Knoppix to read / write to the card and get some ROMs from my laptop on there?

Yeah, with any Linux you should be able to read both partitions of the SD card. I have heard there's problems if you try to boot a live USB Linux to do it but a Live CD or HDD install (or maybe vitual machine - haven't tried) should work without issue. You really only need a file browser (and if you get really fancy gparted) to wor on the ARpiCADE SD card. If you haven't already also back up the card you have, make an image of the whole card - that way if you happen to break something or someting decides to break it's easy to restore.

Awesome - I will give this a shot.

Thanks again.

Update: after installing a few Linux tools, I was able to access folders on the SD card. Looks like I'm good re: adding roms.

What linux tools did you use? I used puppy linux but it wouldn't access the sd card. Are you using a usb stick/sd card adapter?
I'm in the same situation you were in before. Windows asks to format sd card.
Thanks in advance!

If you can try burning your Puppy Linux to a CD or DVD and booting from CD/DVD, some people have reported issues using Live USB builds.

I'll have to access my computer to remember which ones I downloaded. I was still unable to make an image of my SD card, but I was finally able to see the folders.
Once I get back into my other computer, I'll let you know.

Without being able to read the partitions on the SD card in your file browser you should still be able to make a whole image of the SD card to back it up. When you image the card it makes a bit perfect copy so things like partitions and formatting do not matter to imaging software.
