Button setups

I've never been successful with Mame, mostly because I get lazy and give up.. Is there a cheat sheet for button commands, menu shortcuts, etc that would be helpful to set up a new system? What extra buttons or button mapping do you guys use when building a cabinet? My cabinet currently has P1 P2 P3 buttons, P1 P2 start buttons, a toggle switch for service menu and another toggle I think I have wired to the coin button. I know there are hotkeys to do different things, but I'm not sure where to find the list.

I should make a proper reference sheet for this stuff but hopefully this helps.
The default hotkeys are:
P1 start 'long hold' (about 2 seconds) = exit game
P1 start + P1B1 = coin
P1 start + Joy1 down = pause/unpause
P1 start + joy 1 right = MAME menus (in MAME)
P1 start + P1B6 = Retroarch menus (in emulators running in retroarch)
In Attract-Mode the following are set as defaults:
P1B1 = launch selected item
P1B2 = systems menu
P1B6 = random game (in current list)
Cab 'test' switch opens Attract-Modes menus (OR 'tab' on keyboard)
Cab 'service' exits Attract-Mode (opening the second instance of Attract that is the service menu) (OR 'f4' on keyboard)
There's also this guide to what buttons are used by which emulators:

For your 3 buttons setup you may want to change the B6 commands but you should be able to reasonably use the system with the default settings.

With the new hotkeys what do I need to do to only have coin up and pause work? I have grandsons that like to mash buttons and I need to limit what goes on when buttons are pushed by them.

Just edit /boot/hotkeys.ini and remove the lines you don't want to work.

Thanks.. Thats what I was looking for. I'll have to see how many buttons my harness has. I can add buttons. I haven't built my final CP yet. Working on set up and layout still. Right now I have a universal CP that is loaded with button holes.
