Daphne support on a vertical monitor? Possible?

All,
I've been trying to make Daphne work on my vertically-oriented monitor. No matter what I try in daphne.sh (-rotate 270, setting -x and -y to the resolution of the files) it always displays rotated for a horizontal monitor and fullscreen.
Has anyone had success configuring their setup for this to work? Or will I need to convert these files to be a rotated orientation?
