Sorry I'm not actually sure. I've grabbed files from sets ranging from MAME0.147 through to almost current for testing. Honestly it's been a crapshoot and I've followed the try it and see approach. Not sure how much the Naomi roms have changed in MAME over the years, the version may not actually matter much for a lot of the roms.
Pretty sure there's an official answer, I just don't know it.
