I've spent almost an hour trying to look for this information on the site/faq/documentation and I still couldn't find it.
Can someone please tell me what version romset FBA uses? I've tried a number of different roms from previous pi builds and none of them seem to work (I've only all Capcom CPS2 and CPS3 fighters, metal slug and a few others).
Which romset should I be getting based on

FB Alpha v0.2.97.42 or FB Alpha v0.2.97.30?
I understand CPS2 and CPS3 will probably work with the newer versions of Mame, but I know CPS2/CPS3 work perfectly on FBA and I'm starting to gather information for a potential horizontal build

After a quick google for lr-fba-next my guess is v0.2.97.37... but then I've only tested a couple of roms at most with FBA so far.

You've also got your qsound.zip and neogeo.zip in the same roms folder yeah?

I'm sure I did, but I will double check the folder, but that would be such a n00b mistake if I didn't

I just loaded an FBA rom and brought up the retroarch menu screen [F1] and it reports the core as FB Alpha v0.2.97.39.
No qsound to worry about, but you will need neogeo. Tested sfa, sfa2, sgemf, mslug and mslug2. Works a treat. mslug2 seems to struggle. mslug seems fine though.

Awesome! Thank you.
I'll look for a romset if that version.
I didn't know you could do that.

Metal Slug 2 struggles even on the original hardware IIRC...

From memory I think the only NEOGEO game that struggles in FBA is Strikers 1945 Plus (which runs fine in AdvMAME). Metal Slug 2 is full of slowdown, that is accurate emulation of the real hardware, it's still a great game though. I believe you can overclock the NEOGEO emulator to get rid of the slowdown using FBA, but I haven't tried it personally. It's discussed here:
