Model 2 and 3 ... Worth It?

Model 2 and 3 games tend to be more driving and shooting oriented... but there ARE a few that aren't. Is it worth bothering with the Model 2 and 3 emulators to play those few games? I assume it would be as easy to get them going as everything else... just call the proper emulator to play the proper rom in the proper folder.

I'm assuming you mean Model 2 and 3? Sorry if I'm wrong there. They more or less work like MAME, right rom in the romfolder, launcher script etc. Both are gun & driving game heavy but have some joystick games too. Some of the Model (1,2,3) game series were continued on Naomi/Naomi 2... In ARpiCADE_5 both are running in 240p (but the originals were medium res).
Model 2 is using Box86 and WINE, it's occasionally a bit buggy but playable. The next update will have more games inputs pre-configured and games set to English by default. There's roughly twice as many games on Model 2 than Model 3.
Model 3 emulator performance varies from game to game, also the change to Wayland from X11 negetivly effected Model 3 performance (will probably find a fix eventully) - not everything is running great in it but it is playable.
Games you may want on Model 2: Virtua Fighter 2, Zero Gunner, Virtual On, Virtua Striker, Sonic the Fighters, Dead or Alive, Dynamite Cop, Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx , Pilot Kids
On Model 3: Virtua Fighter 3, VF3 Team Battle, Fighting Vipers 2, Virtua Striker 2, Spike Out

Model 3 seem to work (many of them)... but seem very slow. Oddly, the music seems fine but yeah, they seem to run bout 1/2 speed.
Model 2? I can't get any of them to work. They load a little... a bot shows up at the left... once I got a half screen with an AM2 on it... but then nothing...
Will keep fussing with them. I read that Pi5 SHOULD run most Model 3 fine...

yeah, model 3 *should* be fine on Pi5 - some games run well (enough) on Pi4. However the swap from X11 to Wayland killed the performance in this emulator, some games arn't so bad but there's a software issue holding us back currently.

it's possible the update freezing for you has caused some sort of issue with WINE. Just speculation as Model 2 is running in WINE using Box86 (as its a Windows only closed source binary).

Something musta broke with model 2. Depending on the rom, I get either what appears like a window ...taking about 1/3ish of the screen at the left...all black but with text I can't read. Top bar of window does say M2 Emulator I believe...hard to read. Once in a while I can find a rom that makes a window that takes up as much space as before but the Model 2 Emulator logo appears in the window... but nothing else. Both just sit there at that point.
It's not a big deal as there aren't all that many desirable standard stick games for the system...
Here is the screen the update leaves me at... was I supposed to wait longer than I did before giving up?

The little window seems to have two buttons to choose... top and bottom. You can move a "selection box" up and down but it appears that's about it. I couldn't "select" one or the other it seemed.

That's the bit where the instructions are to press 'enter' then wait a sec then 'alt+f4', but if enter didn't work I didn't write anything to handle that... Past that is really just a reboot to make sure everything is written to the SD card but the reboot takes a minute or two and can look like it's hanging.
The window you can see there is a Microsoft installer. The checkbox should be unchecked (it's for 64bit parts we don't want). The main button just says 'install'. Not sure why 'enter' didn't work to press the button.
