Trying to add more ROMs, but...

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
dee2er, yeah I have no problem backing up the image and I finally found out why I couldn't access the sd card using puppy linux- i needed to use an sd to usb adapter. I was finally able to add roms to the image.
ON another note, I added some mega man roms to the nes emulator and they show up on the games list and load up but I can't control the games at all with the joystick or buttons... I can pause and reset the games using a keyboard but that's it!
Do you know how I can configure the nes emulator to detect the gpio/jamma/joystick controls?
Thanks in advance!!!
p.s. all of the arcade games work fine.

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
damn, I must have broken the NES config at some point. Not sure when I last tried it was.... I'll take a look and see if I can figure out what happened to break the controls.
Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Thanks! I really hope you figure it out. I've been trying to play Mega Man in my cabinet for a loooong time now! Almos a year to be exact. P.s. love the adapter and software. I've convinced at least two people to buy one.
Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Just checked on the default ARpiCADE settings and in Mega Man 2 the inputs work fine. Not sure what the issue would be for you. Are you running the default settings?
As I can't replicate the issue I can only really suggest you use the Retroarch F1 menu to try and get it usable. There's 2 ways to set controls in that menu, one in the quick menu and one in the settings menu - again not sure which the issue will be as it works here.

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Thanks! The problem was I was using a mini wireless keyboard so Everytime I tried to get into the menu f1 was registering as 1 because I had to hold down another key simultaneously to get it to register as f1.
Now the problem is that when I get into the retroarch menu I can't move up or down or choose an option in the menu with the wireless keyboard or with the cabinet controllers.
Should I try a wired gamepad or a wired keyboard or.....?
Thanks again!!!!

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Dee2er, so I tried to adjust the settings in retro arch using a wired game pad (retrolink snes controller) then I tried a wired keyboard and neither one of those work! I don't know of the retroarch screen freezes or if the inputs are just not being recognized. Again, the joysticks and cabinet buttons are not doing anything either in the retroarch menu. I can't play any console games (only arcade games), as a result.
When I enter the retroarch menu, there are dots to the right of the options - not key or button registries (if that makes sense).
Please help. Thank you.

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
edit /home/pi/.config/retroarch/nestopia.cfg find the line:
input_driver = "linuxraw"
change it to
input_driver = "udev"
then keyboard input should work in the retroarch menu for nestopia again. Once you have it all how you want you will want to set the input_driver to "linuxraw" again for the hotkeys to work.
Hopefully that will work for whatever version you're running. Definately random USB controllers will not work as they've never been set up.

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Man, I was really hoping this would do the trick but no. Still can't change anything in retro arch. Keyboard doesn't register even after changing the retroarch nestopia config file.
Any other suggestions? Someone mentioned in another forum that I might have 2 config files or and old config file but I don't even know how I would check that.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Yeah Retroarch uses lots of config files that overrule each other and when I quickly checked the nes config file earlier I missed the second one, sorry about that.
try the same change in /home/pi/.config/retroarch/nestopia_libretro.cfg
if that doesn't work I'm out of ideas... really not sure why it's broken for you, it works for me.

Re: Trying to add more ROMs, but...
Not sure if it helps but there's also a NES emulator in AdvMESS on the image, /boot/roms/consoles/advmess/nes/ that may be worth trying if you can't get Nestopia to work. I'd forgotten about MESS.
