Sluggish Gameplay

Post by bimber » Wed Aug 07, 2024 10:28 pm

I'm seeing some issues with a few games slowing down here and there during gameplay (Demolition Derby, Chase HQ, Ivan Stewart Off-road). The sound and the game get choppy and slow down while playing here and there. I checked voltage and it's around 5.3v. Is there a setting that I need to change? Running the games in 172, but I also tried AdvMame and 203. Anyone know what's going on here?

Which arpicade version and RPi are you running? I can check it out and see if I can figure anything out.

Are you measuring the voltage at the JAMMA edge with the board attached? 5.3v at the JAMMA edge is a bit high, you really don't want to go past 5.2v. If you need the voltage that high for performance it suggests the JAMMA harness could have inadequate 5v and GND wiring and it may be worth adding some extra wire for both 5v and GND to the power supply.

Measuring at the board. I was getting the lightning bolt, so given that and what I read about power being a possible issue, I bumped it up. Backed it down to 5.2v now. Running 3.11 (RPi3+). Also saw some slowdown on Hang On. Seems to be the games past 1984.

Probably worth trying 078 for each of those games. I had Offroad in it already on my build (but the turbo button doesn't look like it is setup). Generally the controls may need a look at/tweak for each of these games as they had analog inputs originally.

Demolition Derby played OK in AdvMAME from what I could tell, but I didn't play for that long - just beat the first level. It seemed about the same in 078 as well... still worth trying 078 for you if you were having probs with it in AdvMAME.
