so for mame 269 hiscore is this the correct way?

hiscore.png
you will want the homepath to point to .mame not .mame269 (at least if you want both MAME versions to share hiscores). ie.
homepath $HOME/.mame

Otherwise it looks good.

EDIT: also very exciting that Paragon 7 seems to fix the issues you guys had.

Yeah, it looks like it would be easy to separate out the hiscore list... but why if it works well with both like it seems to (thus far).

@FrizzleFried

Both my cabs are using a 25" CRT, the sd arcade them for pi5 works on the Horizontal cab with no issues, the vertical has some curling and the right hand side, tried adjusting it out and it will not. Didnt happen on v4, is there something I can adjust to make it move to the left a little or anything else I can try. I just do no like the looks of the opacity theme, been using the sd arcade ones since your first version..

Side note: On my Horizontal sd card I can turn off/on 480 with no issues other than fonts looking off, on the Vertical sd card cab its all garbled when switched... Heres the wierd part, I can pull the sd card and put it in the horizontal cab and the garbled images go away and its of course sideways because the CRT is horizontal... I thought maybe turning 480 on/off would get rid of curling in the vertical cab but just goes all garbled.

No idea why. Mainly just after the curling issues as the theme works other than being off center a little.

I suspect you are going to need to mess with the horizontal frequency... there is a way to input things via the back end (same place you choose vertical orientation, etc) BUT when I popped in the one time I did to see whats up it comes up with a dialog box that I simply can't read on an arcade monitor.

Perhaps dee2er will know better.

OK... bad news...

I've finally had a little time to actually PLAY the system a bit.

Unfortunately, I AM encountering the same issues that others have reported with games taking multiple attempts to load.

On top of that, I've noticed that I'll load up a game... the controls will be screwy... Down is P1... P1 Start doesn't work, etc... etc... I'll exit, I'll attempt to go in to the same game and it will not work a couple times but then eventually it will let me back in... but the controls will work!

Thus far I've only tested this on .269 ...

Once it seems to get messed up... it SEEMS to get worse. More and more games won't load immediately... sometimes taking 3 ... sometimes 4 attempts.

Controls will be all messed up... but then fixed from time to time with the very same game.

:(

Very odd... it seems to affect older titles mostly... newer titles like the Psikyo and Cave games seem to work every time and the controls work fine. I then go in to Zaxxon (for example) and it takes 3 or 4 times to get there and the controls are all screwed up. Both running the same emulator.

@FrizzleFried
I think I've forgotten to add the hotkeys tweak on page 3 of this thread to the first post... it fixes the hotkeys messing up joystick order if MAME instant segfaults, at least as far as I'm aware... it requires an edit to /usr/local/bin/hotkeys to put a sleep in the stop routine. I'll upload a new image on the weekend with the latest changes and 269 installed and the hotkeys fix, I haven't found time to patch out the box in 251 and 269 yet but hopefully I can have that done too.

Are you still running the OC? If so it may be worth trying without the OC for now. I've been running the Pi5 underclocked for a while now as it seemed to help with some of the weirdness, but I may have had voltage issues too - I've since turned my 5v up slightly for Pi5 compared to what I use for Pi3 and 4 - I will test different clocks/volts again soon.

Just trying Zaxxon now... loads fine for me in 251 and 269 but no sound in either... does Zaxxon need samples?

Also noticed that, at least with Zaxxon, 269 doesn't remember you have seen the warning box before and always shows it, 251 remembers and only shows it the first time you load the game... must look into that too (or just get around to patching out the boxes).
EDIT: yep needs samples, and I find the sample paths in the mame ini files are wrong. Now I have sound in Zaxxon but mysteriously it now doesn't always load (it seemed reliable a second ago before i fixed the samples) and the inputs are like you said - weirdly when the inputs didn't work the warning box popped up again in 251, rebooted and retryed - no warning everything working... there maybe more to this than previously thought, the hotkeys can't make MAME show a warning box.

Very probably nothing to do with your OC, I'm still underclocked.

It's nice when things break for the "doctor" ... at least I know I'm not crazy.

# CORE MISC OPTIONS

skip_gameinfo 1

**I think I had to change this on either 251 or 269 as they didnt match, could be wrong, Ive started taking better notes.

Side note: I know its a 20 year old post but may still be of some help...

Link doesn't work right now. BYOAC has been really iffy for me the last few months for some reason. Will try to look later.
