P1, Up Shorted - Fixable?

Hey gang, long time stalker of this forum - love the Arpicade / RaspberryJAMMA setup.

I've had mine for about a year, no real issues up until recently. I powered that cabinet up for a party and noticed that I couldn't scroll down in the game selection menu. Eventually I did get the game list to page down and noticed that essentially it is stuck scrolling up one game at a time until it gets to the top of the list. If you get the game list paged down, you can start a game if you hit start fast enough but sure enough Player 1 / Up is shorted to always be 'on'.

I swapped in an ArcadeSD and a Bitkit FPGA to test. My harness, isn't shorted. Equally, I can move the ARPICade RaspberryJAMMA to another cabinet and the problem moves with it. Dunno what caused it but any chance that this RaspberryJAMMA is fixable?

It's 100% repairable. Just a matter of figuring out what has failed.

If you have another RPi you could try with the RaspberryJAMMA that would/could at least rule out the RPi as the issue. Except for the RPi the ribbon cable is probably the next most likely cause of the issue. It's not particularly likely the problem is on the RaspberryJAMMA itself as nothing failing on it should cause a button to be stuck on.

If the problem wasn't moving with the board I'd guess it was micro switch related rather than game board as there's not a lot that can cause a button to be stuck on.

Oh, you think it's my Pi3? - huh that's interesting I wonder what would cause that. Easy enough to test! (I'll report back) Thanks!

I've seen one Pi do it before, no idea why as it didn't happen to me. Other than the GPIO the Pi was fine but 2 of the GPIO pins got into an unprogrammable state somehow (suspected internal short). That Pi is now under my TV as a Recalbox build using USB controllers and it has been working fine for that but I never figured out why/how the 2 GPIO pins were damaged.

Hopefully it's just the ribbon cable has been damaged somehow, although unless you have been moving it around or putting things on top I wouldn't think it's likely to have been damaged while in your cab.

As far as the rest of the hardware goes failure of the right resistor on board the RaspberryJAMMA would cause a button to be stuck off. The only way the RaspberryJAMMA part could cause a button to be stuck on is a short to ground from some stray wiring or bent pin or something.

Ah, that makes sense - thanks! I grabbed another pi from my 3d printer and sure enough, this one works fine. Awesome news - thanks again for y our help!
