Various 3.83 game/sound issues
Not sure if Im missing something or not but Ive got a few games that worked in 3.82 but now dont. Also these games now have sound issues as to where before they didnt. I moved all my files over from 3.82 to 3.83 and changed nothing. I also get some video scrambling when loading one game:
Carrier Air Wing (cawing) is not loading in mame .172
Batsugun (batsugun) is not loading in mame .172
Alpha Mission (alphamis) loads to scrambled video in advmame .106
Xenophobe (xenophob) loads but sound is scratchy/poppy in advmame .106
Super Moon Cresta (smooncrs) loads but sound is poppy in advmame .106
Radar Scope (radarscp) loads but sound is poppy in mame .139
Raiden II (raiden2) is not loading in mame .172
Missile Command (missile) loads but sound is poppy in mame .172
Iron Horse (ironhors) loads but sound is poppy in advmame .106
Rush N Attack (rushatck) loads but then stops and displays a black screen with a volume bar adjustment at bottom of screen.
Only 10. Not bad out of 315 games.

Re: Various Version 3.83 game/sound issues
RESOLVED some of the issues:
Alpha Mission fixed by adding its ROM name "alphamis" to this line in the advmame.sh in the BOOT/Launchers folder. Look for below line:
# add games which render wierdly using dispmanx to nosdl to run them on the framebuffer (eg. gorf)
nosdl=
Just add it in with the other titles and save, while doing this if you play Arabian add it as well because it is also scrambled video until this fix.
Tac-Scan issue fixed with attached file from Deeter he sent me awhile back, just replace existing file with this one (forgot he sent me this).
Rush N Attack fixed by moving ROM from .078 to .106 folder
Raiden II fixed by moving ROM from .172 to FBA
Batsugun fixed by moving ROM from .106 to FBA
Carrier Air Wing now fixed, somehow the ROM was corrupted, I replaced with one from my back up ROMs I use to install fresh ArPiCAde versions and all is well.
Make sure to rescan ROMS or manually edit your gameslist.txt file with notepad++

Re: Various 3.83 game/sound issues
Another Update:
Moved Super Moon Cresta to .172 and sound issue is now gone.
Radar Scope I did get working but those game sounds drove me nuts so I removed it from my game list.
Xenophobe was also removed, once I got it up and running I once again realized why I never liked that game even in the arcade back in the day...the 3 split screens!
Missile Command is still doing that weird clicking noise even before the game starts/coins up. Tried it up and down the emulators. Need help with this one still as it is a favorite. No clue how to resolve at this point... Help me Obi Wan Kenobi
Heres a close rep to the issue but Im on/in a CRT cab.

Re: Various 3.83 game/sound issues
Missile Command originally runs at 61 FPS (+ change), currently ARpiCADE doesn't have a 61FPS mode. It will stop the popping/clicking sounds in 172 if you go into the MAME menu and 'slider controls' then bump the 'Screen Refresh Rate' down 1 notch from 61.035 to 60.035. Unfortunately I've just discovered that setting isn't saving so this will need to be done each time you load the game... not ideal.
Radar Scope doesn't seem to have the same sort of popping going on for me. Not a great sounding game though. Don't know if that's the emulator or the game - I've never seen a real Radar Scope running - I'll compare it to my PC and see how it goes...
I will investigate further.

Re: Various 3.83 game/sound issues
Moving the slider down 1 fps does eliminate the popping, is this something that can be addressed in an update for future releases? Or just a glitch we have to live with? Thanks for the temp fix though.

Re: Various 3.83 game/sound issues
Just wondering if a permanent fix has been found for Missile Command yet?
Re: Various 3.83 game/sound issues
you could change throttle to 1 in /home/pi/mame172/mame.ini to fix Missile Command. Not sure what else may be positively or negatively effected by this change though.
I will try to add a work around for the next ARpiCADE release, it should be possible to add the throttle command selectively via the mame172.sh launcher. Alternately I also want to work on the resolutions some more, it's possible I can just make the Pi run at the correct refresh rate for Missile Command and avoid hacky work arounds all together.
