I just got another Apricade to put in a Ms Pac cab and I am building a new image using 3.83, question, I have a selection of Mame 203 roms of about 50 or so (4 Way) games, is the mame-192 folder now 203, do I put them in that folder?

Thanks, do you think the 106 roms run better than the 203? Also if I disable the rom scan on boot can you scan them from the Attract mode menu or does that not work?

depending on the game some versions of MAME run better than others. If the game is running fullspeed in 203 it won't run any better in an older release, in fact an older release may have inferior emulation when compared with the latest versions. That said, although 203 is the newest MAME on ARpiCADE and therefor probably has the most accurate emulation it is also generally the slowest version.

Personally I tend to use MAME 172 and AdvMAME (106) the most, with some exceptions if it doesn't run well in 172 it often does in 106. Exceptions include 90s Midway (run in MAME 078) and, CPS3 (run in FBA).

There's an older guide to where things run well here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wMSNB ... -Z-27jIPlA that may or may not help you figure out which MAME to try games with. I really should get around to posting a newer one of these.

Can someone give an idea where to find a 172 rom set? It's the only one I'm having trouble finding...

I would just forget that. It’s like the great white whale. Seriously

I just realized tonight that these new updates come out. I also updated from 1.71 to 1.72 beta tonight.

It would be nice if the sites download section would be updated to show new releases

Unfortunately I cannot change the downloads section of the site to make it up to date. The latest version is 3.83 so if you grabbed the image from this thread you're up to date for now.

The 172 romset I don't have a recommendation for currently unfortunately. Since Emu Paradise shut down their downloads I don't know of new places. The best bet may be to convert an earlier set using Romcenter or a similar rom management program.

You might be able to find some older rom packs here https://archive.org/search.php?query=mame%20roms

Just started using my new Arpicade board in a vertical cabinet, and have setup this 3.83 version.

In the instructions it says press ESC to exit AttractMode, then again to exit service menu to AdvanceMenu. But when I press ESC in the service menu nothing happens.

How can I get to AdvanceMenu, and/or get to rpi command prompt to edit files etc.?

Thanks for any help.

F4 on keyboard to exit the Attract-Mode menus, both for the game selection and service menus. Or press 'service' cabside for the same.
