F2 not working

Sorry for all the posts.

Trying to enter “test” mode on a few games.

Is says to use “F2” in the menu but when I press the F2 I does nothing.

I was able to re set the test switch and assign it new buttons on the arcade but I would rather not do that in case the buttons were hit in combination during play and it went to test mode by accident. I tried to assign the test switch another key on the keyboard but it was not working.

Mortal Kombat ROMs. Maybe more.

OK, prob MAME0.078 then...

if you have it use the test button/switch in your cab. Otherwise you will need to jump through a couple of hoops...

The Retroarch based emulators are using the 'linux raw' input driver to work with the hotkeys system... for some reason this makes real keyboards work oddly (only some keys are picked up by Retroarch). While a game is running in 078 press either 'f1' (it will work regardless of the 'linux raw' driver) or 'p1 start + b6' to open Retroarchs menus, navigate to 'drivers' and change the one set to 'linux raw' to 'udev' - after that exit and reload the game for the change to take effect. With the 'udev' input driver the keyboard will work normally and 'f2' will work as a test button. Once you're done don't forget to change the input driver back to 'linux raw' or the hotkeys won't work in that emulator.

Alternately (but not all games will let you do it this way), some games can be set to test menu mode via their dipswitches in MAMEs menu ('tab' or 'p1 start + joy right' while the game is running).
