Sound output

Post by Matt68061 » Fri Aug 21, 2020 6:33 pm

Greetings;

Can someone remind me how to force sound out of the Raspberry Pi onboard 3.5mm jack. (if possible... I was thinking it was a config setting but not seeing it.) This is a Pi3 (B+ possible??) if it matters.

I am having issues with the sound on my Arpicade. not sure if it is the chip or DAC?? I have several small mini amps and thought it might be easier to just run right to that.

This also allows me to mount that in a way that is easy to adjust the sound.

Thanks,
Matt

Either run from the terminal or add (or uncomment) this line to /boot/run.sh
amixer cset numid=3 1
and then your audio should be on the Pi analog output.

I'd recommend trying plugging your amp into the output of the DAC first as if it's working right it may have better quality audio on it than the Pi. Early Pis had noisy analog audio and you were better off using the DACs output, not sure if that's stayed true for the newer Pis.

Yep... ran audio from DAC to an external amp and all worked fine. Took three 3.5mm cables to find one that worked.

All good now. Thanks as always!
