You should not be seeing that screen, looks like something has gone wrong in the imaging process.
For Pi5 start with the newest MAME you have. Probably 0.269 at the moment.

I had to use the earliest win disk imager, because using the new one, it said it was locked somehow?
Even though there is no mame folder for .269... all I have to do is create one?
thanks

269 is an add-on to ARpiCADE_5 release, see the bottom of the first post in the release thread.
I don't have a tonne of Windows experience but RPi imager should be able to write the images using the custom images option (can't remember offhand what the option is called). Win disk imager should also be able to work but IDK what is going on there...

Doesn't look like it's writing the card properly. No idea why but hopefully we can figure it out.
Are you writing to the whole SD card or just one partition on it?
Did you add any games? If so did you safely eject the SD card before removing it from your PC?
Are you using any sort of SD card extension? Some people have found extension cables that worked on earlier Pis do not work with Pi5.
If you have one maybe try a different SD card in case it's something to do with the card itself.

I tried the 3X image on it, and got the same error message :/..
Yet, it worked on the Pi 4, if breifly. The image resolution was over scanned and cut things off.
Maybe the card doesn't work well with the Pi 5?
It's a SanDisk 16GB.

3.X is for Pi3, won't work on Pi4 or 5.
The image foor ARpiCADE_5 is 16gig, perhaps your 16gig SD card is a few bytes too small or something (not all 16gig cards have the same space on them).

gotach! was hoping they where backwards compatibale like a game system.
I just ordered a Amazon 65GB card.... it got a little further, but still didn't boot up right.
then I go to close the pi imager down and get this error..
>error trying to seek beyond partition....>
