Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
I got the Happ trackball issue worked out by moving to Advmame... however I am getting no love with my Spinner + OptiWiz setup. The OptiWiz has a USB interface...
I am getting nothing with the trackball installed. I am getting nothing without the trackball installed.
Any experiences with the OptiWiz? On my PC the OptiWiz worked exactly like the HAPP trackball ... but only in one direction. It was recognized in the USB port as normal.
Ideas?

Hey Frizz;
Is there a specific game you are working on? (or will it not recognize it at all?)
I have noticed that I needed to change settings in the advmame.rc file AND the advmame.nosdl.rc files to get some games working at all with analog controls.
I have not specifically used the Optiwiz...but just a USB trackball (mouse).
I would presume that any USB device would be recognized the same...but admittedly have no way to verify.
I am interested in this as I am almost ready to pull the trigger on some type of USB spinner.

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
All my testing of analog controls (except guns) has been on an Opti-Wiz so they should definitely be able to work (admittedly I'm on newer software but the difference in this case should just be configuration). I don't have a Spintrak but I don't think it does anything differently...
What inputs are you using for the spinner? I only have a trackball that is in A, B, C and D (plus another connection for 5v and ground).
If you hadn't said you had tried without the trackball already I would have suggested that as having 2 mice can be complicated (although in my experience they will often both control the same cursor which would work fine for you so that may not be it anyway).

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
For MAME 0.203 in mame.ini I had to change 'mouse' to 1 under 'core input options' to make the Opti-Wiz work in game (worked in the MAME menu without this setting but not in game).

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
I don't believe the spinner is working at all (not even in attract mode)... I will have to go look at where the spinner plugs in to the OptiWiz... I do believe there are 4 wires (though it may be 2 or 3 to be honest)... and it was working with my MAME cabinet prior to swapping over to the ARpiCADE... so I know it's not a connection issue between the spinner and OptiWiz.
I did try without the trackball... still no go.

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
As far as I know a spinner is just like one axis of a trackball so not sure why it would be different. I think there will be 4 wires total to the spinner: power, ground, and one for each direction (but I could be wrong...).

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
Good news... got it working... and with the trackball too.
It does have 4 wires... and there are 3 locations on the OptiWiz other than +5/GND I could use for signal... I moved it over one from where it was and... it worked vertically in the menu... but still no go in the games. I then moved it over one more position (toward the +5/GND pins) and... it worked.

Awesome.

Re: Spinner + OptiWiz (USB)
interesting, sounds like yours is working on different inputs to mine. I just noticed the settings connections between the power and signal headers. Mine has the jumper on the - setting and the + has no connections, is yours also set to - ?.
I realise your up and running now but I'm curious.
