ID this component/ smokey

Post by vib_ribbon » Fri Apr 17, 2026 7:33 pm

Hi.

I've been enjoying my old arpicade a lot recently. Tonight, while I was playing a particular game, I noticed the sound was missing. When I powered my supergun down to restart it to see if it made any difference, this component on the board literally went up in smoke. :o

Can you tell me what it is so I could get it replaced? Hopefully that will fix it? Thanks.

Thats an AN7511 audio amp chip.

Replacing it should see you fixed up but it's also worth having a look at your 12v in case it helped the chip fail.

Also, please join us over at arpicade.net - it's the latest version of this forum.

Hi.

Arpicade.net is not sending me my activation email, can you check for me under the same username?

Also, I changed the AN7511 but still no sound. It's definitely getting 12v. Tried it on both my cab and supergun. Is there anything else I could do to narrow down the problem? Thanks.

Edit:
I decided to upgrade my pi3 to a pi5.
I also plugged some speakers directly to the DAC and I get sound from there, so the fault must be further down the circuit.
I put my finger onto the an7511 and it's very hot to the touch, the same with the pi5's CPU. I think I'll need to get the fan for the pi5.

I fixed it!! :D

The 3.5mn headphone socket was soldered rather poorly at an angle, so I guess when I removed the pi to do the an7511 repairs, I must have pushed/ pulled on it too hard so the ground pin was no longer making connection. I patched it with an ugly wire and now we have found again.
