Button 2 not working and other various questions

Post by Kirko » Sat Oct 24, 2020 4:52 am

Hi

I was lucky enough to receive my Raspberry Jamma and Pi4 on Friday and have been playing around with it this weekend. I am new to arcades and thought I would need someone to come out and install this for me but so far I'm doing pretty well. I have fixed my low voltage issue by searching the board which has greatly improved the emulation of the Naomi games.

My current problem that I can't quite seem to get past is that the button number 2 is not working for both player 1 and 2. At first button's 2 and 6 were not working but after putting it into 6 button mode with the dipswitches every button except 2 for players one and two are not working. I thought the low voltage issue may have been affecting this but I no longer get the lightening bolt and it still occurs. The Raspberry Jamma has replaced a Chinese box that seem to run some sort of windows program upon boot. With this box connected all the buttons seemed to work (although the display was horrible!). Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what might be happening.

Is there a way to access the service menu and Apricade menu without a keyboard? I did bump the Raspberry Jamma and somehow ended up in the service menu.

And the last question is that the picture goes off to the right of the screen. Is this adjust through a setting on the menus or through the monitor itself. I think I have found three dials that I could possibly change the display with but havn't touched them yet in case it can be adjusted through software.

Thanks for your help and for this great product!

Not sure why button 2 would have issues, especially for both players. I test each board before posting out so hopefully it's not a hardware issue... is there anything different about the way button 2s are wired up to the controls when compared to the other buttons? In case you have only checked in an emulator I'd recommend checking the inputs on the command line using the command
jstest /dev/input/js0
(or js1 for player 2) checking on the command line will make sure the problem isn't a config for a game or emulator being wrong. If you don't have a USB keyboard this won't be possible though.

The 'service' button for the cab should open ARpiCADEs service menu without a keyboard. If you don't have one in your cab and want to add one the standard JAMMA service pin will work. If you decide to add a service button you may as well add 'test' while you're at it... EDIT: if you have a credit button wired up to service that may be how you found yourself in the service menu, or maybe the first instance of Attract-Mode crashed for some reason.

You can adjust the picture edges in config.txt using the left and right overscan settings. You may find using your monitors width adjustment and horizontal position is easier but if you prefer not to touch them the overscan settings should work, it may take a few trys as you have to adjust it then see if it worked with a fresh boot up and possibly adjust again etc.

Howdy

Thanks for the test command. It shows that button 2 for both controllers is "on" and pressing the button does not do anything. The buttons still works on my other game board though. I am unsure about the wiring and what to look for on the Jamma Harness so I think I may try and find someone to have a look at it.

Thanks for your help with this

Check the microswitches at the button end of the wiring, some micros have 3 wiring tabs and can be wired to be on rather than off. It may be as simple as moving one wire for each button.
